People who used the service told us that they were treated with dignity and respect and staff were caring and nice to them. Staff interacted and responded to people in an open and positive manner and spent time with them doing activities they enjoyed. We observed that staff knocked on people’s doors before entering. Staff communicated with people in the way they understood. People’s care was person centred and responsive to their needs.
Patient requests for basic care are often delayed or altogether forgotten, and some staff unapologetic to defiant when tasks are finally carried out. The excuse always given is that they are understaffed, but I find this ironic because my father is paying cash for care here and it is $450 per day. While the staff often tries to please patients, there ability to do so is lacking. The meals consist almost exclusively of canned and frozen side dishes, and only the most inexpensive cuts and preparations of meat, poultry and fish. The portion sizes do appear to be adequate, and staff courteous. All in all, Morningside is a very average nursing home.

The Care Quality Commission had received concerns regarding the care of people using the service, and criticism of the food being provided. There was a registered manager in post who demonstrated an understanding of the service and provided leadership to staff.
At our last inspection in June 2016 the service was rated ‘Good’. At this inspection we found the service continued to support the rating of good and there was no evidence or information from our inspection and ongoing monitoring that demonstrated serious risks or concerns. This inspection report is written in a shorter format because our overall rating of the service has not changed since our last inspection. People’s needs were assessed, planned and delivered in a way that met their individual needs and requirements. People were supported to eat and drink enough to meet their nutritional needs.

You cant get a single person in administration to call u back or answer your call. My mom has had numerous falls in which I've noted for investigation. The staff are overwhelmed and not attentive to their patients. Some of the staff are very nice and caring but you always have a few bad apples.

A representative of the nursing home did not respond to a request for comment. Among the problems flagged at the homes were a failure to keep proper maintenance records, a failure to collect and analyze water samples and a failure to keep the required cleaning or inspection appointments. Amsterdam Nursing Home was an older but excellent, very elegant, and clean place with good rehab. The staff was good, but the social work was not so good. The food was not good for my husband, but the dining room on the rehab floor looked fine.

Morningside House Nursing Home was a nice place, but it wasn't for my brother. It was an adult home before, but they have changed it to an assisted living home.

EAC sees itself, and this website, as one source of ‘housing options’ information and advice for older people and their families. But there are many other organisations providing valuable services, both locally and nationally.
My father has been in a couple the last few years and it is no worse or better than most he has been in. The service obtained the views of people and their relatives and people told us they were listened to, and their views acted upon. People and their relatives knew how to raise concerns about the service and the registered manager addressed complaints received appropriately.
When she is there with Alzheimer's and should be on the floor with nurses monitoring them 24/7. The afternoon staff were not aware what she was in for and when we arrived she was walking around crying and no one was able to understand what she was saying because they didn't speak her language, spanish. We explained to them that she cannot be roaming around unsupervised because she has Alzheimer's and will not remember where her room is and she will honestly try to leave.
Care designed to provide quality support and comfort for people living with life-limiting conditions. My sister is in the physical rehabilitation part of Amsterdam Nursing Home. We're very comfortable with them as far as we're concerned that it's well managed and well maintained. They seem to be attentive that my sister is comfortable with the care and they seem responsive. Every meal isn't the same, most are good, and some are disappointing.
